1. Are they going to pre-vacuum your carpets with an upright vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filtration system ( as per Aust/NZ Standard 3733-1995 — do they even have a copy of this standard )before they actually clean your carpets?........If not—DONT USE THEM ! - do they have a vacuum cleaner at all?
2. Are they industry trained to know which is the correct detergent to use on your particular carpet fibre to give you the best possible results without causing permanent damage to your carpet fibre?
3. If you have wool carpet—are they Woolsafe Australia trained and are they using Woolsafe Australia Approved detergents & rinses?
4. Do they offer “free sanitizing” - as that is a lie before they even get through your door, because sanitizing occurs when water temperature reaches over 100 degrees celcius ( steam ), so if their machine is not capable of reaching that temperature—they can not sanitize !
5. Most professional carpet cleaning detergents already have a deodorant in them ( with the exception of hypo-allergenic detergents normally only used for allergy sufferers ), so if they are offering “free deodorising” - they are lying again !
6. Back in 1984, professional carpet cleaners charged $24.00 per room—26 years later, we are now in 2010. Fuel, groceries, transport, insurances, training, labour, everyday living etc etc has all gone up, YOUR wage has also gone up considerably. Obviously the cost of getting your carpets cleaned properly has also gone up too so why would you think that you can possibly get a "professional"' carpet cleaning job done today ( 2010 ) at a cheaper price per room - YOU CAN'T ! Cheaper for a reason—you get what you pay for !
Why bother getting your carpets cleaned at all, if you are not prepared to pay the correct price to have them cleaned properly in the first place? ( very blunt, but true ).
7. Do they have public liability insurance?
8. Is their electrical equipment tested & tagged and up to date?
9. Do they carry MSDS ( Material Safety Data Sheets ) in their vehicle?
10. As a guide - it should take them approximately 30 minutes per standard size room to clean your carpets properly - so ask them how long it will take them to clean all your carpets because you will soon work out if you would be getting a professional job or just a “splash & dash” job. Another thing you might like to ask them is how many jobs they do a day because a true professional will take their time to do the best job possible on your carpets and will only be able to do 3 to 4 jobs per day (maximum).
Don’t blow your money on a “cowboy” !
